Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about NETMONITY's monitoring services.

What is NETMONITY?

NETMONITY is a cloud-based monitoring platform that helps businesses track the performance, uptime, and health of their servers, networks, websites, and applications. Our service provides real-time alerts, detailed analytics, and comprehensive reporting to ensure your critical infrastructure is always running smoothly.

How does NETMONITY work?

NETMONITY works by regularly checking your systems from multiple locations around the world. For server monitoring, we use a lightweight agent that you install on your servers. For website and API monitoring, we use external checks from our global monitoring network. When an issue is detected, we immediately send alerts through your preferred notification channels (email, SMS, Slack, etc.).

Who should use NETMONITY?

NETMONITY is designed for businesses of all sizes that rely on digital infrastructure. Our platform is particularly valuable for IT teams, system administrators, DevOps engineers, and business owners who need to ensure their online services are consistently available and performing well. Whether you have a single website or a complex multi-server infrastructure, NETMONITY provides the monitoring tools you need.

How does the 14-day free trial work?

When you sign up for NETMONITY, you automatically get a 14-day free trial with full access to all features of your selected plan. No credit card is required to start. We'll send you a reminder email 3 days before your trial expires, and you can choose to subscribe or cancel at any time. If you decide not to continue, your account will simply expire at the end of the trial with no further obligation.

Can I change my plan later?

Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time from your account dashboard. When upgrading, you'll be billed the prorated difference immediately and gain access to the new plan's features right away. When downgrading, your new rate will apply at the next billing cycle, but you'll maintain access to your current plan until then.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. For annual Enterprise plans, we also accept ACH bank transfers and wire transfers. All payments are processed securely through our payment provider, and we never store your complete credit card information on our servers.

Do you offer discounts for annual billing?

Yes, we offer a 20% discount when you choose annual billing instead of monthly. This discount is automatically applied when you select the annual billing option during signup or switch from monthly to annual billing in your account settings.

What is your refund policy?

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee for all new paid subscriptions. If you're not satisfied with our service within the first 30 days of your paid subscription, you can request a full refund. After this initial 30-day period, refunds are issued on a prorated basis for the unused portion of annual subscriptions only. Monthly subscriptions are not eligible for partial refunds after the first 30 days.

What types of systems can I monitor with NETMONITY?

NETMONITY supports monitoring for a wide range of systems including:

  • Servers (Linux, Windows, macOS)
  • Websites and web applications
  • APIs and web services
  • Databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, etc.)
  • Network devices and infrastructure
  • Cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Containers and Kubernetes clusters
  • IoT devices

If you need to monitor something not on this list, please contact our support team as we're constantly expanding our monitoring capabilities.

What alerts and notifications does NETMONITY support?

NETMONITY supports multiple notification channels to ensure you never miss an important alert:

  • Email notifications
  • SMS text messages
  • Phone calls (Enterprise plan only)
  • Slack integration
  • Microsoft Teams integration
  • Webhook notifications for custom integrations
  • Mobile push notifications via our iOS and Android apps
  • PagerDuty, OpsGenie, and VictorOps integrations

You can configure different notification channels for different types of alerts and set up escalation policies for critical issues.

Can I customize the monitoring thresholds?

Yes, NETMONITY allows you to set custom thresholds for all monitored metrics. You can define warning and critical thresholds for each metric and customize how long a threshold must be exceeded before an alert is triggered. This helps you avoid alert fatigue from temporary spikes while ensuring you're notified of genuine issues that require attention.

How do I install the NETMONITY agent on my servers?

Installing the NETMONITY agent is straightforward. After signing up, you'll receive installation instructions specific to your operating system. Typically, it involves running a simple command that downloads and installs the agent with your unique API key pre-configured. The agent is lightweight (less than 20MB memory footprint) and communicates securely with our servers using encrypted connections.

For example, on Linux systems, you might use a command like:

curl -sSL https://install.NETMONITY.com/agent | sudo bash -s -- --api-key YOUR_API_KEY

We also provide configuration management tools like Ansible, Chef, and Puppet for automated deployments across multiple servers.

Does the NETMONITY agent impact server performance?

The NETMONITY agent is designed to have minimal impact on server performance. It typically uses less than 0.1% CPU and under 20MB of memory. The agent collects data at regular intervals and batches transmissions to our cloud platform to minimize network overhead. You can also configure the collection frequency to balance between real-time monitoring and resource usage.

Can I monitor systems behind a firewall?

Yes, there are two ways to monitor systems behind a firewall:

  1. The NETMONITY agent uses outbound HTTPS connections (port 443) to communicate with our servers, which works with most firewall configurations without any changes.
  2. For systems that cannot have an agent installed or cannot make outbound connections, we offer a proxy solution that allows a single agent in your network to relay monitoring data for multiple internal systems.

For highly secure environments, we also offer an on-premise gateway that can be deployed in your DMZ to handle all communications between your internal systems and our cloud platform.

How secure is NETMONITY?

Security is a top priority at NETMONITY. We implement multiple layers of security measures:

  • All data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3
  • All sensitive data is encrypted at rest using AES-256
  • We use dedicated hardware security modules (HSMs) for cryptographic operations
  • Our infrastructure is hosted in SOC 2 Type II certified data centers
  • Regular security audits and penetration testing by third-party security firms
  • Two-factor authentication for all user accounts
  • IP-based access restrictions and anomaly detection
  • Granular role-based access controls

We also maintain compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant data protection regulations.

What data does NETMONITY collect from my systems?

The NETMONITY agent collects system performance metrics such as CPU usage, memory usage, disk space, network traffic, and running processes. We do not collect the contents of files, databases, or user data unless specifically configured to monitor these items. You have full control over what metrics are collected, and you can exclude sensitive metrics or paths from collection.

For websites and APIs, we collect response times, status codes, and certificate information. We can optionally capture response content for content verification, but this is disabled by default and requires explicit configuration.

Does NETMONITY comply with privacy regulations?

Yes, NETMONITY is compliant with major privacy regulations including GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA. We act as a data processor for the information collected from your systems, and we only use this data to provide our monitoring services. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising purposes.

Our privacy policy clearly outlines how we handle your information, and we provide data processing agreements for customers who require them for compliance purposes. We also offer data residency options for customers who need to keep their monitoring data in specific geographic regions.
